I'm feeling awake this morning – and I can't help but noticed how quiet everything is. I think I might go hunting on Vox for new blood, any suggestions?
Last night I completely forgot that my MiL was coming over today to watch Evy – so I didn't clean AT ALL. Instead we went to the mall and I bought Rhythm Heaven. Luckily, with the recent attack of ants we've been keeping the house fairly clean. Made even more so by the recent BRILLIANT purchase of a small drying rack. I'd never needed one before, as we had a dishwasher, however the small bottles I use with my breast pump cannot survive the dishwasher and I'm forced to hand wash them. We were just placing a clean dish towel on the counter and letting them dry there but we're pretty low on counter space so it was getting annoying.
Evy had a restless night, I think it was the Chinese food I ate. She was tossing and turning so much this morning I skipped on breakfast in order to nurse her a third time since 4:45am – didn't seem to help so we just placed her in the swing in the hopes the rocking would soothe her.
I went to a Union meeting yesterday. Despite the fact that our contract was up in April we still haven't come to an agreement in negotiations. I was disappointed, however not surprised, to hear that our COLAs are completely off the table this term. I was however surprised to hear that my employer is asking for us to pick up the medical cost increase of 3%. When I first heard it was what was holding up negotiations I thought, "Well that's just silly – they're paying everything else why don't we just pick up the rest?" But then I heard the details: We're offered two brands of health care and only one brand will actually be increasing. If my employer pays the 3% then it's only about $140K for the year because they can just pay the difference of the one brand. However, if we pay it – then we're actually going to be paying close to $500K for the year because ALL employees will be contributing – rather than just the employees who choose the health care brand that costs more. To top it off, we found out that moving to a flex schedule (10 hours a day/4 days a week) would save close to $500K a year however my employer doesn't even want to consider it. So not only are they NOT implementing cost saving ideas, they're also going to make us pay because they need to save money. Just not fair. They need to give in order to get just like us.
Evy & I went to the beach on Wednesday with Jose & his daughter. I got sun burnt in a few places; along my scalp where my hair was parted, my hands (from pushing the stroller), a little on my face, and a little across my chest – its strange getting burnt on your hands and just painful on your scalp.
Oh! I found out yesterday that the new Sidekick LX has been released since May – missed that. Went to the T-Mobile store to check it out and noticed that their required data plan was $34.99 (unlimited everything). I asked them if I'd have to pay that price if I upgraded to the new phone even though I'm a previous Sidekick owner and pay the old rate of $20. They said that since I was grandfathered in they could lower it to $24.99 a month, though I wouldn't get unlimited texting. FUCK THAT. The only reasons I have T-Mobile is because of my Sidekick and the great unlimited package I got with it. If in order to get a new Sidekick when the time comes I have to tack on an extra $15 a month, then I'm done with T-Mobile. I've always liked their customer service better than Verizon, but its not worth paying as much as with a more reliable coverage service just to get good customer service. It'll be awhile until I switch of course, because when I do I'll want to finally move to an open application such as an Android/iPhone or maybe a Blackberry – and that'll take some cash since Paul will need it too. Sad to realize that soon my Sidekick era will be over – I've had one since 2006.
