DOLL POST: Soom’s Sept Doll, Honey Dew

I was really impressed by this monthly doll, because I think they've really thought outside the box to give the consumer something great for their money.

She comes with special ears, hands & feet that are made in part with a transparent resin – I think very much illustrating a "fairy" look. Really great innovation

Amazing switching ability!

Last night was a good night!

Yesterday was just as long as I'd expected, because I was continually waiting. I got confirmation from USPS that the "item arrived at unit" so I was anxiously waiting for my lunch time (11am) in order to rush home (I live ten minutes away) and unbox her. However, once I got there I was disappointed to see the "item arrived at unit" equated to a notice being left. Waah. So I grabbed the noticed and even though it says it wouldn't be available until the following day – I still decided I was going to try and pick her up in the afternoon since I'd already planned on going to the post office. More waiting, until 3pm – but I was in luck! She was there and by the time I left the post office with my doll and my bike (which was fully assembled – so the box was huge!) I looked like a kid on Christmas :P

Unboxing is always fun! I just wish I'd had better light as my camera tried to compensate with a higher ISO and now the pictures seem a bit grainy to me. She was packaged much more snugly than Linnet, her second head was bubble wrapped at her knees and I even unknowingly ordered during a free event so I got a teeny pukipuki dreaming Flora face. Her posing abilities are AMAZING. She can cross her legs like a proper lady – without fighting with her joints like I have to with Linnet. She can even sit Indian style!!!

Another cool thing about her is that the doll is designed to be interchanged easily with specific body parts – such as her hands & head. Switching between her normal head and her sleeping head is so easy I am seriously disappointed by Linnet's structure now. Her hands are held on by magnets so a quick tug and she's hand-less and ready for a new kind of grip. AMAZING!

I can't wait until her face ups are done so I can photograph her properly without her looking like a scary zombie doll with eyes that stare into your soul. Speaking of eyes, her default ones are too dark, I'll be changing them soon. The only wig that fits her slightly is Linnet's red wig – but that's Linnet's through and through so I hope I get the wig I ordered soon. Also, I ordered a little outfit (flowered dress & purple leggings) along with a jacket for her from someone on DoA. However, I've discovered too late the MiniFee is considered "petite" and the dress was huge on her. So she's living in her purple leggings and jacket for now.

The bike was, as I said, pretty much fully assembled and is just as I would expect. It was only $17 – which is good because up close it needs some work to look more real. BUT! Its the right size and has moving parts so that's a good thing. Apparently – it even has a music box on the back so when the back tire spins a tune plays. I haven't popped in the required 3 AA batteries to see WHAT it plays but I will eventually.

ONWARDS!

That's right – at long last my original calculations were more accurate than their over-exaggerated ones and I'm thrilled to say that though she's still in Korea she's been shipped today! EMS usually takes about three days so by the end of the week I'll have my new doll in hand!

Now, if only I could think of a name! I'm probably going to have to wait until I get her wig and her face up done because it'll be difficult to pick a name for a naked unfinished doll…

What a wig, what a wig, what a very good wig!

I can't decide what wig I want to get my new girl. Usually they give you a default wig, but not with Fairlyland for some odd reason – so I'd like to find her one. I ran across these two at Leeke World, and someone happens to be running a group order right now for that company so I can get it for less shipping.

I can't decide which wig, or which color. The white looks nice, but she's going to have the "beautiful white" skin tone and I don't want her to look really bland and washed out. Anyone want to give their thoughts? I'm thinking that I want this girl to be a bit less… girly – as that seems to be what Linnet sweats out of her artificially cute hairless armpits :P

I did it :)

Yesterday I ordered my new girl! I've paid for her too – the unfortunate thing though is that it takes up to 40 days to make and then ship her :( I'm trying to forget that little blip though and hope that the 40 days go by fast! I need to find a name for her – I'm thinking something tomboy-ish…

Must. Stay. Strong!

Last night, Paul & I sat down and talked about creating a budget. We were cleaning most of last night so we couldn't do it then, but I'm hoping tonight we'll have an opportunity. I know he's really going to try for me this time, and so I really have to try as well – meet him half way like the responsible partner should.

Which means I can't get this gorgeous dress that's featured on the DoA forums. It's so modern, colorful, and so unlike most of the clothing for sale on the board right now; Lolita, Gothic, and Kimonos.

Woe is me.

I’m addicted :)

I bought Linnet some new stuff – before we went on the trip – and they
came this week! She's wearing a new outfit (a black two piece top &
black capri), bracelet/arm band, necklace & eyes.

I
know, I know – you guys are thinking this is the 3rd pair of eyes I've
gotten her and they look the same! Well, basically they are. They're
almost the same color blue as the one here – the only difference is
that these are smaller (14mm instead of 16mm) so you see more of the
whites of her eyes.

Some other stuff I bought her was a pair of
boots that don't fit (so I'm reselling them), a pair of socks, a black
belt & a pair of sunglasses. The bummer thing about the sunglasses
is that both lenses have popped out and I've lost one. I didn't look
really hard for it, but I will tonight, then I'll glue them back in.
When they were fixed – they looked great!

I'm waiting on one
more batch of stuff which includes a new wig (curly & white), a
pair of pale lavender eyes, string hooks (used when restringing dolls)
& a headcap which will protect her face when I'm traveling with her.

I'd
really like to dive into trying to make some miniature furniture for
her or something. For one thing, she needs someplace to sit! I'm not
very good at miniaturizing stuff, I need to take some measurements I
think…

Linnet’s new look!

As I've mentioned, she's had a new face up done – to mimic the old one as closely as possible. Her mouth is a bit different in the fact that there are teeth now and more detail in the shadows of her lips. She's also been given new eyes and a new wig. I'm not sure if the new eyes are her – they're so pale – but I know I'm in love with her new wig :) I'm sorry that all the pictures I've been taking recently are boring and portrait-like, but I can't seem to get her ready and out the door into the light before it fades once I get home.

SHE’S ARRIVED!!!

Well, she's in a nearby shipping facility – but that's much better than in Pennsylvania. Who am I talking about?! Linnet! Her face up is complete and the woman sent her express mail yesterday and she's now in the Inland Empire. She'll be delivered today – but since I'm not there to get her I'll have to pick her up tomorrow.

The whole ordeal has been a bit stressful. First, communication was difficult because she wasn't getting my emails from my Yahoo! address. So we were using a combination of Yahoo! and private messages through the DoA board. Then she seemed confused as to what I was looking for, and she suggested I get a completely new face-up rather than a touch-up. I said I'd do whatever she thought was best – but I explained that she misunderstood my request. After that she said she'd work with the original face-up which I took to mean that she was doing a touch-up rather than a completely new face-up.

Flash-forward to a week later and I haven't heard a peep from her. So I finally email her and ask her to just send Linnet back if she still hadn't been able to work on her because I was leaving soon. She responded that night and said she was done, sorry it took so long, and the price for the face-up was $60. I was shocked to hear that because I thought we were only doing a touch-up and I emailed her back, confused as to where our communication had broken down. Long story short – she agreed that she'd told me she'd do a touch-up, let me pay the touch-up price, and apologized for the mis-communication that she said was due to her unorganized system. I ended up paying her more than we'd agreed – because I still felt she'd done the full work – and she expressed her the next day.

So! Here we are, Linnet less than 40 miles away and I'm just so excited!

On Tuesday night, I sat down and tried my hand at restringing her. Half an hour later I was close to tears (partly because I was just so tired), because of how impossible it seemed to be able to restring her. I couldn't even get the elastic through the first part of her arm – let along through all four parts of each arm, each leg and then back to the head. But, I kept trying and I learned a lot and with Paul's help I was able to completely restring both arms through her bust. Tonight I'm going to restring her legs to her torso and then tomorrow (with Linnet's head) I'll connect the torso & legs to the bust & arms. I also went online and ordered a restringing tool for the next time I have to do this – as I know they'll be a next time.

I cant wait to get her back together! She has two complete outfits, a pair of boots, a pair of eyes & a new wig that needs to be tried out. I also need to retrofit the inside of my flight carry-on bag with straps to secure her as we're traveling. I'm just so excited!!! Have I said that yet?! Have I?!
