On Diana Gabaldon’s Facebook page, they’ve been having a hypothetical ONLY “casting” of the Outlander series movie. Today they’re asking for characters to play Black Jack Randall and though I always envisioned Jason Issacs (who is an option) I was happy to see the list suggested included so many actors I never considered but would be great!!!
For those of you who haven’t read the series, Black Jack Randall is hard to cast because he’s supposed to be both a strong, ruthless tormentor (in the past, 1700′s) and a meek, loving husband (future, 1900′s).
Not surprising, Issacs is in the lead – however I feel his age is playing against him for the first book in the series where all the main characters (cast so far) are supposed to be in their late twenties. So I’m going to vote for… Jonathan Rhys Myers!
Its a shame really, that this movie wont be made since the dream cast would be great – but I’m also relieved because they would have never been able to make the movie to match the book. Too much internal dialogue, too much simple day to day life that would be boring, too much unspoken actions.
